Each
piece is individually designed, cut and filed by hand, and fired in a small kiln in my
studio in Arlington, Virginia. This work combines an ancient
technology with the space-age principles of thin film physics. Glass
fusing was discovered some 4,000 years ago, reportedly
by Phoenician sailors who cooked their evening meal on a beach beneath the stars, and at dawn discovered
that the sand under their pots had become glass. In contrast,
dichroic glass is a very modern, high-tech process using vacuum chambers and electron guns. This jewelry combines
these two technologies. Remember that
wearable art is still art when you're not wearing it. Many of these pieces are designed for display when not being worn, and will establish their own small gallery space when you hang them on a narrow wall area. Keep your pendant
somewhere you can see light move on and around it.
